The Satchel has a long strap, which I use to wear the bag across my chest. We spend the next half an hour breaking open the Treasure Globes and divvying up the items.

“This is it,” Kothga says as he picks up the final Spire Fragment. The piece snaps into place to form a six-pointed black star, about the size of my hand. “I couldn’t have finished this without your help. I spent years researching this zone and the Spire. There is little written about this place, and even less about the Huntra race. I even made it into the Great Library at Para-Sun. I spent six months scouring the deep archives there. Do you know how many strange looks an Orcishgrathus gets in the Kingdom of Lia?”

“Uh... I’m guessing a lot of strange looks?”

Kothga chuckles. After a moment he gives me a serious look, like he’s trying to decide something. “Why are you here, Five? What is your purpose? What is it that calls to your soul? What is your quest in life?”

By this point, I have given up trying to correct him on my name. “Quest? Well...” I’m not actually sure. The questions take me by surprise. “The Labyrinth asked me to escape, and also to defeat Nothing.”

Again Kothga scrutinizes me under his intense stare. “You are serious, or at least you believe what you are saying to be true.”

I nod to him.

“I don’t know what to make of you, Eight. You can summon a goddess. You can read Lab Speak, and the Lab gives you quests. None of that happens. Ever. The Lab does not ask things of people. Are you a god?”

I snort at the very suggestion and laugh, but the huge Orc’s face remains serious. “No, I’m not a god. I actually do not know who I am. Why do you ask what I’m looking for?”

“You don’t know who you are? Were you hurt and lost your memory? So, you are probably an Agent?”

“No, sir. I...” The idea of telling him that I started out as a gray mannequin creature doesn’t sound like a good plan. “Mr. Kothga, I know I’m not an Agent. All I know is that the Sacred Toadstool Tribe of Fairy Ring is counting on me. Sula-Sula gave her life so that I could save her village.”

“I ask because I wish for you and Gneiss to accompany me to the Spire. This zone is highly dangerous, and I could use your help. You help me, and I swear to accompany you to save this village you speak of.”

Ki said I have fourteen days until the next reconfiguration, that should be plenty of time to help Kothga. I look down at Gneiss, who surprisingly nods at me instead of shrugging. We are both interested in finding out more about that Spire. “Okay, it’s a deal.” I offer my hand to Kothga.

He grips my hand, causing me to wince. “Good. Good. We will go down in the histories for our battles and glory!” he bellows with mirth.
